Herbalism

Herbalism is one of three gathering style professions in the game. It’s very simple to level up and really amounts to just picking flowers. As with each of the gathering professions though, they all fuel another profession. Herbalism fuels both alchemy and inscription, so count on demand being at least moderately high.

Since herbalism is point and click, many people have it, this will bring prices down on the weekends and result in lots of competition trying to get higher level herbs. But don’t despair, if you have a character with either alchemy or inscription or you just need some extra cash and happen to have a couple mounts (or maybe you need a couple mounts), then herbalism is a great choice.

Outfitting for herbalism running is pretty straight forward. You’ll need a specialized bag, yes you can go without one, but trust me, for sanity’s sake, you will want an herb bag. You’ll also want nab the fastest mount you can. This is probably a catch 22 for those of you looking to get mounts, but if you have an epic ground of flyer, it will make thing that much easier.

The key to making money, I mean lots of money, with herbalism is efficiency. Start running an area, learn where everything tends to grow, and use your mount for speed. If you happened to have a level 80 druid, you’re already set. If not, work your way up to a mount.

Also make sure you have the gatherer addon. This addon will help you track nodes that you’ve hit as well as nodes that your guild members have hit. It works for both mining and herbalism (and treasures), so having it in indispensable if you’re mapping out places to run.

Herbalism also gives the user a handy little buff called Lifeblood which has six ranks and can be used as a pocket heal for characters that may have limited healing options like warlocks, warriors, or rogues.
